During October 2006
“The Bra Project”
began as a very low key, artistic task for a small group
run by Iris Perrin, Administrator at the Activity and
Conference Centre. However, as interest in the idea
grew, it quickly became a very colourful and highly
creative project, raising money for Breast Cancer
Research in a fun kind of way. Everyone who took part
gave £1 or more as a donation to the
Breakthrough Breast Cancer
fund and in return received a picture of a plain white
bra. The task was then to decorate the bra as
imaginatively and colourfully as possible and give it a
title. Led by Jean Johnston, the patients and staff at
Fairburn House were most enthusiastic and created some
wonderful bra designs, which were then put on display at
the Fairburn Activity and Conference Centre.
By the end of the year, a total of 74 bra designs had
been created by visitors to the Activity and Conference
Centre, individuals from local businesses and the
Activity Centre staff themselves.
Combined with money donated for the sale of pink
Breakthrough Breast Cancer
bracelets, the
total amount raised by
“The Bra Project”
was £217.
